LETTER FROM SUPERINTENDENT SHACKELFORD REGARDING NEW BOND ISSUE
November 12, 2019
Dear Jay Public School Voters,
One of the best privileges we are afforded by living in the United States, is our ability to vote in elections. Jay Public Schools is one entity that relies upon voters for assistance with bond issues to provide new facilities and construction, repairs to existing buildings, technology and transportation. Without bond issues, state funding is simply not enough to maintain our district.
JPS unsuccessfully ran a bond election on May 14, 2019. Just because the bond issues did not pass, does not mean our needs for those items in the bond issues have gone away. Since those needs still require addressing and it will take a large amount of money, more than what we receive from the state, we would like to have your opinion on the different components of the bond issue.
Please give us your response to the following survey. Click on the following link to begin the survey: Community Survey. The survey will be open for two weeks. We will post results of the survey on our website. The Board of Education and the Administration will review your feedback and make suggestions on how to proceed based on input from the survey.
Our students are counting on us to make sure we provide a quality educational experience in a safe learning environment. We value your input and appreciate the time you are investing to provide us with your opinions.
Please don’t hesitate to contact any of our board members or me with questions or comments.

2019 DELAWARE COUNTY BOWL CHAMPIONS
I hope everyone had a great summer and is excited to begin a new school year. Our theme this year is “Bulldog Life”. I can say whole heartedly that living “Bulldog Life” is a unique and wonderful thing. Many communities and schools will never experience what this means. You and I live it every day. The Jay Community cares about each other, they help their neighbors in need, and are looking for ways to help make our school and community grow.
As I addressed our students on the first day of school I challenged them to live “Bulldog Life”. I challenged them to be more respectful, compassionate, and kind to their teachers and classmates. I challenged them to have goals. I challenged them to be the “best” at whatever they were involved in.
“Bulldog Life” may mean different things to different people. We recently challenged every student to write down five things that “Bulldog Life” means to them. We are taking five students from each site, a total of twenty students, and announcing the winners in a few days. They will be pictured on our web page. I have read some of the entries and they are amazing. I am so proud of our students for their accomplishments and the way they live “Bulldog Life”.
